The Bar Mitzvah Issue
Welcome to our Bar Mitzvah issue. We cannot believe that it is already our 13th edition since April 2007 when we started publishing 2Life. A Bar Mitzvah is a time when you start being an adult. You look back, and you grow up. This issue of 2Life magazine is doing exactly the same. In her essay on the Sukkah competition, Lalibela is looking back into the humble beginnings of Jewish events of Second Life. Chana Letov reports critically about interfaith dialogue and religion in our virtual world, Brandon Lindman reports on a victory against hate groups in Second Life, and we also speak with Attila Seres, the mentsch behind the avatar Sofar Shepherd about his departure from Second Life. When we started our adventure in this virtual world, the Tachles Gallery was the only art venue for Jewish artists. Today there are several. In this issue you will find a review of a show by Polish artist Mira Zelechower-Aleksiun as well as the Spurensuche exhibition, which was in itself a commemoration of Kristallnacht. Even if Jieux Shepherd has the last word in this issue, we want to mention that as we finish up this magazine, the news broke that Linden Labs is increasing its real estate prices; a potential problem for many Second Lifers. The first victim is already known: Rabbi Writer is selling his Holy City sim. Can the sim be saved? Happy Hanukah |
